Genre: Young Adult/Fiction
I loved this book! Even though it’s classified as a young adult book and has the protagonist of a teenage boy, it deals with the concepts of life and death as maturely as any adult fiction book would.
This book is about a monster that shows up in the middle of the night. Who is ancient and wise and is there to tell Conor three stories and afterwards Conor must tell his story. However, this is not the monster Conor is expecting, he is terrified of something much worse, the nightmare he’s been having since his mother started having her cancer treatments.
This was my introduction to Patrick Ness, who is a renowned young adult author. This book reads like a fable, it has lessons and moral and makes you feel raw and vulnerable because you get such an insight into what Conor is feeling
A slightly heavier style book…however, the movie is highly anticipated and is directed by J.A. Bayona (who also did “The Impossible” and who is also directing “Jurassic World 2”).
There are also movie tie-in books available that delve into the special effects and unique animated segments of the film.
You’ll need a tissue for this one!
